Needlearts Appraisal Program (NAP),submitted by Cindy Gershin, Chair
With hurricanes, floods, and fires this past fall, the question of replacement insurance often arises. Homeowner’s policies generally include limited coverage for replacement of personal property, including art. Additional insurance is often required to cover the amount of needlework that many of us have in our homes. An appraisal from a qualified appraiser may be required for collections that are valued over certain dollar amounts. Speak with your insurance provider to find out what your coverage is and to determine how to add additional insurance coverage, if needed. Although there are ways to do an appraisal after damage or loss has occurred, it is best to have proper coverage in place before anything happens to ensure your claim will be valid and to know what you have is sufficiently insured.
If you have suffered a loss of your needlework and are in need of assistance with an appraisal, or if you have questions, contact NeedleArtsAppraisal@ang.org.
