Seminar 2019: Local Area Attractions

Local Area Attractions

Houston welcomes ANG!

America's fourth-largest city is a exciting destination, offering a mix of technological innovation (Space Center Houston), to south Texas history, international culture and world-class dining.  There's always something to do in this "Southern hospitality meets urban chic" city. Come explore YOUR Houston!

Message from the Local Seminar Coordinators:

Houston hums with energy and an independent spirit all it’s own. Not technically in the center of Texas, but Houston is the Heart of Texas Stitchin’. Although Lone Star is the host chapter, our area sister guilds: Bay Area, Lake Houston, Needlepointers of the Woodlands, and Piney Pointers are helping to bring you a seminar as big as Texas.

The home for our Seminar is the beautiful Marriott Marquis Houston, which overlooks Discovery Green Park, and is located in the Avenida District of Downtown Houston. Bring your swimsuit for a cooling float around the hotel's Texas Shaped Lazy River overlooking downtown. The hotel is two blocks from MinuteMaid Park, home of the 2017 World Champion Astros. In addition, Houston is the Culinary Capital of the South, and we have over 20 restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.

There is a lot to see and do in the Houston area. Located just outside Houston, in the Clear Lake area, Space Center Houston with NASA's historic museum and Johnson Space center is a popular destination along with our Museum District, which boasts 19 museums. We have several very nice parks and an arboretum to explore. Shopping in the Galleria is unbeatable. Most importantly, there are five needlework shops in Houston proper. All are unique, as wonderful as you have heard, and worth a visit. We invite you to come a day early or stay after seminar to enjoy all that Houston has to offer.

The Lone Star Chapter is offering three items for sale. Participant Name Tag kits, the Texas Scissor Fob, and the Toro Frame Weight are available on the ANG website. ANG National is selling the tote bags. The Lake Houston Chapter is also offering an item to tempt you.

We are excited to welcome you with open arms and Houston hospitality. Mark your calendars for August 14–19, 2019 for Deep in the Heart of Stitchin’.
