Special Events

Meet the Board

So you are not a chapter officer but you are an interested ANG member! Have you ever wanted to know what your dues do, why we have an auction, or why we go where  we go for Seminars? Have you ever wondered how you might help grow your chapter’s membership, recruit new ANG members, or develop programs for ANG? We may not be able to give you all of the answers to all of your questions, but we promise we can try. So when you see the ladies running around wearing the blue nametags, stop, say hello, tell us your name, ask a question or just tell us you are having a good time. We want to hear from you.

Life Patron Luncheon

Sat., August 17 | 11:45 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.

All Life Patrons are invited to join the Board for this luncheon and a fascinating presentation of the Houston Junior Forum’s Presidents’ Skirts. Each year, members make a unique skirt adorned with heavily beaded appliqués for the president to wear to the annual fundraiser and other special events. Originally conceived in 1948, the earliest skirts had a “Fiesta” theme and were fashioned after brightly patterned Mexican skirts. Over the years the themes of the skirts have evolved to a theme favored by the president, or reflecting American, Texas, or Houston history. Sherri Cooley, current Chairman of the Presidents’ Skirt Committee and past president of Lone Star ANG, will present a collection of the skirts with a brief history and a short style show. Make your reservations online. We look forward to thanking you in person for your interest in, and support of ANG!

Admission is free for this event, and all attendees and the general public are welcome. If you would like to sell at Expo!, please refer to the Registration Guide on page 69 for table costs. To be a seller, you must be registered for Seminar, and items sold must be needlework related or of interest to the needleworker. Auction, Auction, Auction!

SOLD! Seminar Auctions will be here once again in Houston, so be sure to leave plenty of room in your suitcase! We are planning for a Silent Auction on site at Seminar, as usual, with canvases, a nice selection of finished items, and maybe pumpkins again!

Buy It Now is happening again, as well, so start saving for the big day! An Online Auction will also be running during Seminar. Online bidding by Auto Bid will be available. Just go to to register. If you have bid in previous online auctions, you can use the same account. Auction days and times will be announced later. You won’t want to miss this one! If you or your Chapter have items for donation, please email the Auction Chairman at auction@needlepoint. org. ANG loves your donations of painted canvases, unopened kits, charts for counted canvas projects, clean and unused threads, floor stands, books, needlework tools, and finished items! Please, no opened kits or partially stitched canvases. A letter for tax purposes will be sent to donors. Shipping information is available from the Chairman. PLEASE DO NOT SHIP ITEMS TO THE ANG HEADQUARTERS! They just have to send them on the Auction Committee, which requires more shipping.

Farewell Gala

Sun., August 18 | 6:30 pm

Another great week of friendship and stitching has come to an end. Now you must tell your old friends how great it was to see them and your new friends it was nice to get to know them. At this gala we will announce the awards, People’s Choice and the Delegate’s Choice, scholarships, and certifications.

So sign up and don’t miss the last Seminar party for the year.
